I can't recall anything prohibiting such an installation. But why would you want to do such a thing?

I found this type of installation while testing the Receptacles. It did not make sense to me!!

Legal yes,good idea no.Perhaps they were taking an outside receptacle off a bedroom.It will cause confusion and service calls.
