Putting a receptacle (with data) at this work station (exam room in a hospital office), which is 3' away from the sink shown. I know the 6' rule, however, I do not have the exact distance from the edge of sink to receptacle (considering the length it would take to get around the tabletop). I read in the NFPA70 handbook that the idea is that if something is plugged into receptacle, and it could likely fall into the sink, it would need GFI. I do not see a monitor/computer falling into the sink, but someone could potentially fall onto the desk and it could glide into the sink (maybe?)

Essentially, I am leaning towards a GFI receptacle for this, but I want to be able to back up my design if I get any pushback.

Not only an appliance falling into the sink, but a person's reach is also a consideration.

I would suggest going with having the GFCI protection for personnel safety reasons.

If the receptacle was below the desk with a grommet for the cord(s), then maybe not.
