I've searched back to Jan '04. What is the difference between a GFI device and a GFCI device?

Receptacle---GFCI or GFI
2 pole 30-Amp Breaker---GFCI or GFI
15 amp CB---GFCI or GFI
The GE controller that dumps my 13.8kV substation on fault---GFCI or GFI

Thanks, Jim

As far as I know nothing.

GFI is just short hand for what is officially a GFCI

Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter.

Neither.

I believe that is GFP

Ground Fault Protection.

GFCIs are installed to protect people.

GFP is installed to protect equipment.

Class A GFCIs trip around 5 ma.

GFP trips at whatever setting the engineer chooses and will normally be well above milliamp.

On the voltage I work with GFP setting s are in the 100s of amps, I have no idea what the setting might be for 13.8kV equipment.
