I have a seimens type BLE 20A 120/240V GFPE breaker. Why does the manufacturer put a #8awg neutral wire on the breaker instead of #12awg? This breaker is installed on a 120/208 panel fed from a wye secondary.
Bingo...From a manufacturer's perspective the breaker is part of a family of breakers and as such they use a commonly sized neutral wire as sized for the highest ampacity in that family. Other than the as t neutral the breaker's ampacity is established by the thermal calibration. The mag pickups are probably all the same.
Ok that sounds about rite. I hoped that I wasn't missing something in that a manufacturer was suggesting that that wire will carry 40A or more when the breaker is sized to trip at 20A. Thank you so much. From a manufacturer's perspective the breaker is part of a family of breakers and as such they use a commonly sized neutral wire as sized for the highest ampacity in that family.
