You are asking how to determine GFPE settings for coordination.

The intent of a GFPE is to reduce the damage caused by arcing faults, so your first decision is "how much damage is acceptable". Another decision is how much of an outage is acceptable. To aide you in your decision you need to know the time-current curves of any other protective devices (i.e. a 20A branch breaker) that could clear the fault instead of the GFPE.

Because of inherent trade offs, there is almost as much art in determining protective settings as there is science. You will not find a single procedure that will be applicable to all installations.

Not sure how proper this is this is something I posted on another forum. I tried to copy before but the complete post did not make it here is the link.

AS for proper settings when the engineer does not supply this IMPORTANT data 99% of the time this is the case. There are some basic rules to follow, HAVE THE CUSTOMER ACCEPT ALL LIABILITY FOR HIS ADJUSTING THE RELAY you left set on minimum.

If you read this scan the complete post as I added some stuff as the post progressed.

I have manuals and data I have collected for 30 years regarding GFP...I might scan it....

I have several books I purchased over the years EC&M published one, mostly old stuff but still pertinent. A few on Groundings cover thjis topic. Then there is the old hands on....WHEN DE-ENERGIZED. And I might be able to answer any specific questions you may have.
