O.K. so I am flipping through channels and they are going through the house (Zubrowski's House) and one guy is using a Gauss Meter to see if there spirits in the house.

I am not sure that is the proper use of the Gauss Meter!!!

Don't laugh. I've just added "paranormal investigations" to my website a couple of weeks ago. Whatever they want to pay for, I'm selling. I own the equipment, so why not put it to use? For the record, I don't believe in ghosts.

I saw a similar show and they claim the "ghost" was walking around with magnetic insoles .Supposedly according to them, this was causing the meter to fluctuate.

Give a meter to a layperson is a sure fire recipe for disaster.

what makes people believe that creatures that are not bound by physical laws could be detected or measured by a meter that relies upon physical laws?

That would be a gaussmeter would it?
A couple of them, matter of fact. And a spectrum analyzer, my most recent purchase, for RF. A few different anemometers for other ghostly studies.

Who you gonna call....

Just found some additional "info" buried in another poster's link::) :)

GHOST TECH
The Essential Guide to Paranormal Investigation Equipment
by Vince Wilson

Compelling new investigation manual. For the first time, the scientific equipment and methods that are used to search for ghosts and hauntings are outlined in detail in a single volume, providing ghost researchers with all of the information they need to legitimately search for evidence of the paranormal.

This entertaining and informative book offers a wealth of practical information on basic equipment operations, the ins and outs of using the equipment during investigations and much more. The book explores the nature of ghosts, temperature detection devices and how to use them, the uses and misuses of EMF meters, recording the voices of the dead, using cameras for investigations, recording the paranormal on video, various types of equipment and how to use it and much more! This is a must-have book for anyone with an interest in ghost research and the proper use of the scientific equipment that has become so prevalent in the supernatural field. It is an essential guide to paranormal research and the perfect addition to any ghost hunter's tool kit! 2005.

yes, I have seen the Gaussmeter being included as 'standard equipment' for a ghost hunter/ghostbuster. I remeber the movie using a manual gas meter (checks for Oxygen and nitrogen content in air).

I usually use that line to relieve the tension of an hour long meeting.

I have seen some programs where the investigator is using a "Trifield" gaussmeter, a brand that is known for inaccurate readings (I lab tested one extensively).

However, it is sensitive and the needle does move in a magnetic field. When they get all excited in some attic or basement when they see the needle move, I would assume they are near some wiring, often knob and tube in old houses. So I take it as show biz, not science.

One producer bought an electric field meter from me when I was manufacturing them, and then sent me the raw footage of their investigation, which showed the digital display suddenly jumping up. I ran it a few times and noticed that the guy was subtly allowing his thumb to touch the E-field sensor, resulting in the spikes. They weren't happy with my evaluation.

I have done a lot of reading about survival of consciousness as well as the ones who hang around after death, and I have no doubt of their reality. But I have yet to see a TV program which is legit. They may have some valid footage infra-red, etc) but their motives are to sell their show.

I too have strong thoughts about the existance of ghosts, though I have never had an encounter or seen any proof.

What I don't like or find funny about the show, is that they set up in the late afternoon go until about 3 AM, talking and messing around and making noise the entire time, and only do that for one night and then tell the people, sorry we didn't find anything. Well Duhh.
