Just wanted a confirmation of my thought process using 2017 NEC.

The local “establishment” that I do work for is getting a Glass-Washer that will be located behind the bar, adjacent to the sink that they currently use to wash glasses. My thought is that it’s basically a dishwasher in regards to code.

210.8(D) requires GFCI protection for dishwasher branch circuits in dwelling unit locations.
Doesn’t sound like it applies to my situation.

A receptacle for this unit will require GFCI due to the proximity of the sink. I’m thinking if it can be hardwired the gfci requirement can be avoided?

This situation is all based on 2017 code.
In 2020 the dishwasher requirement moves to 422- Appliances and it doesn’t differentiate between dwelling units and other locations for gfci requirements.

I’m just looking for confirmation of my understanding before meeting with the establishment owner today. He was told by the sales rep that the glass-washer shouldn’t be on a gfci. I’d prefer it was because of its location (sink) but I’m thinking if it can be hardwired I can install it without the gfci.

I’m just looking for confirmation of my understanding and plan to hardwire (if allowed by manufacturer) without GFCI.

Thanks

Just my opinion but other than cord and plug connected applications with receptacle being within six feet of a sink I see no good reason dishwasher should ever been added to the list of things needing a GFCI.

What you proposing is fine with 2017 code.
