My go-to ladder is a light weight 4 foot step ladder.
It's light and easy to throw around on the jobsite. Easily fits into vehicle. And covers about 75% of my needs.

My current one got damaged yesterday so I need a replacement.

I can just go down to the hardware store to get a replacement but am curious about what you all use for step ladders? And why?

Brand preference?

6ft fiberglass werner with utility bucket. Lightweight and the utility bucket holds whatever you need. Even if you don't need the bucket at the time the slots in the top hold things well.

My go-to ladder would be a 6 ft. fiberglass ladder (Husky). Seems to be well made for the price and I have used it for years with no problems.

In the average home I think a 6 ft. ladder is just more comfortable to work off of than say a 4 ft. ladder. Top of the ladder is high enough so I can lay a few parts or hardware on the ladder and reach them easily.

Other than that I guess it's just whatever you get used to and what seems to work out well for you.

I have only fiberglass ladders, at least 1A rating. 4', 6', 10', 14' double-sided, and a 22' Little Giant. <--- da bomb!

32' fiberglass extension ladder with leveling legs. Oh, wait, that's right, I don't do exactly the same thing as the rest of you guys.

Werner makes a line of Electrician ladders. They are blue with a yellow top. They have wire reels built in and conduit holders.

Since for safety reasons you are not supposed to stand on the top two steps of a ladder, I suspect you are using that ladder in an unsafe manner if it covers 75% of your needs.

I have this arrangement as well. I prefer ladders with 300 LB capacity, but also own a 250 LB. I will occasionally stand too high on a ladder myself, but to avoid that whenever possible, I carry 8ft and 12ft ladders on my truck and a 20ft extension ladder.

That's being pretty judgemental, considering you don't know what I'm using it for...
You also don't know how tall I am, maybe I am using it in a "safe manner".

I have and use a 6, 8, & 10 foot ladders. I'm just talking about my grab and go ladder.
If I have to go on a quick service call and don't know what I'll encounter I throw in the 4 footer and my Little Giant fiberglass ladder.

The Little Giant fiberglass ladder is kindve a do-all ladder, but it's heavy as hell!

This is my LOC. Once you get used to the weight, it's one sturdy ladder. Sometimes I need to get acrobatic on top of it, when no one's looking.

If a 4 ft ladder covers a lot of your needs to get taller you might want to consider buying a platform instead of a ladder. They are not a lot different cost-wise than a ladder and are more versatile although they do take up a little more room. Someone loan me once to paint some ceilings with. It was a whole lot simpler and safer than a step ladder would have been.

It look like this that was a different brand.

When I say "I suspect you are using that ladder in an unsafe manner" that's not being judgmental. That's being suspicious. Had I said "you are using that ladder in an unsafe manner" that would be judgmental.

Also, you apparently missed that I was expressing concern for your safety. If I wanted to just be judgy, I wouldn't care enough to express concern.

maybe I am using it in a "safe manner".

Well, are you?

6 ft fiberglass. Type 1A work, Type 1 home. I also have a 3 or 4 ft ladder with a platform don't remember what its called, handy for ceiling work in tight areas.
For home I purchased an 8ft Type 1 and I don't use. I have the Werner ladders that have a tray that snaps in the top, very handy.

Redirect: My old supervisor liked the wooden three legged ladders. On top of a truck they would dry and and get loose. Nobody liked them but him.

I work in a government building, so I’m usually changing a ballast or bulb. 4’ Werner in most areas. 6’ Werner while in the OSHA space or if I need above a ceiling. 8’ Werner if I need to be up higher. All of them take the Werner utility bucket that holds my tools and wire nuts

For most residential :4' wooden step ladder easy to clean off debris and on the shoulder, still solid after 30 years.
Werner 6' and 10' 1-A steps
Extensions: 20' type 1( light weight),28' and 36'type 1-A
One Little Giant.

I like the ones with the supports on the back side that are spaced just like the steps on the front (type 1-A I think?) so I can use them as steps in a pinch. The ones that have actual steps on both sides are too heavy.

For extension, I like the aluminum ones. I find the fiberglass ones too heavy and arent necessary for my weight. I always get made fun of for being an electrician and using aluminum ladders - He hurt me with his words, suing! ;)

4',6',10,fibreglass, alum little giant knock off, 32' fibreglass xten.
Was thinking of just getting sheetrocker stilts! :0

my go to? i've a gaggle of ladders but....

the 4' in my truck.

the best part?

I'll stand on the top of it w/o any safety harness, steel toes, or HH

I might even practice that on one foot .....

And wave to the new osha guy (he's on a mission)

Because .....finally....i'm on MY OWN again!:p

I hear ya. I practice ladder non-safety very often. Here is me using a ladder as gin pole when the lift wasnt high enough.....and the cat standing on the top rung, very bad kitty!
