Good news in NY

As of the present situation in NY, we are referencing the '99 NEC. I spoke with the DOS today and got encouraging news.
Jan 1, 2006 NY States code cycle starts again. The intention was to reference the 2002 NEC until 2009 and then the '05 would be referenced.
Due to the pressure from the coalition, and some good old common sense, it seems that NY State will reference the 2005 NEC as of Jan 2006, as long as it passes the public comment stage in July of this year - which it most likely will.

Re: Good news in NY

Do you mean, they'll never use the 2002? Right from 1999 to 2005?

I don't think 2002 has been adopted in California yet.

I think if Califonia was a car and got a flat tire it would be incapable of getting the tire changed and would end up in the junk yard due to the endless complexities associated with the potential removal of lug nuts.

I'm sure there'd be some good contracts in it for the right companies though.

Re: Good news in NY

All California jurisdictions have until August 1 to adopt the 2002 locally or the State will do it for them. See the BSC's website.

Re: Good news in NY

Thanks for the link Bob. I glanced through there and didn't see anything on it, I admittedly didn't look long. I was under the impression that the adoption of the NEC was state wide. Are you saying it would be county or municipality?

Re: Good news in NY

The decision to reference the 2005 NEC will be final in July, but looks very promising. So I would definitely hold off on purchasing the '02 until then, because it looks like the'05 will be it.
Lots of changes for the NY gang to digest for this sweeping change, but at least we will be current with most of the rest of the country :)

Pierre, That is good news.

Re: Good news in NY

Pierre, that is good news and some I was looking for. No one could tell me for any certainty what the current/next cycle would be.
I still wonder why 2006? Why must we be a year off the mark? Didn't we have 6 years to think about this?

At least now I have my answer as to whether I should buy the 2005 NEC book/CD combo package.

Sam, Look at the very first line below the header. :D Local agencies can adopt the 2004 California Electrical Code (2002 NEC w/Cal amendments) anytime between Feb 1 and Aug 1.

Re: Good news in NY

Well, being hidden right below the header like that. :D

2004 California Electrical Code (December 27, 2004)
The 2004 California Electrical Code that incorporates the adoption of the 2002 National Electrical Code with approved amendments (PDF) will be available on February 2, 2005 with an effective date of August 1, 2005.

Re: Good news in NY

Pierre,
Thanks for the update. Being from eastern Long Island I like to know whats going on in my area. The local inspectors for the New york Board said that they were told that the 2002 code would be adopted in July. Please keep me posted on any changes. Thanks George
