Does anyone have a good jig or method to cut 3” and above rigid and EMT square in place?

We use a metal circular saw for everything smaller than 3” and it works great.

3” and above never comes out square, even if I mark it carefully and have a new blade on my band saw.

We need it to be dead on square for a support attachment we use. Milwaukee’s 8” metal circular saw can’t quite cut 3” rigid, and while I could use a 14” cutoff saw — that wouldn’t work so well in place, ie. vertical.

I was wondering if there’s a magic bandsaw jig out there, I know I’ve seen a clamp that attaches to the pipe for a circular saw, but I can’t find it anywhere so far.

I appreciate any tips you may have.

I always ran a piece of Duct Tape around the pipe and followed the edge when I made the cut

Trace w/ a coupler or conn. Drape your tape measure over it and trace. Quite a few other ways to do it which is top top secret... keeping the cut true is all about nice and slow...
Cutting on a tri stand helps...

For sure, a tri stand helps… normally when I’m cutting pipe this size, I’m out in the middle of a field and the pipe is already installed, I have to cut in place. I can never get an overhead cut clean and square with a band saw, try as I might.

If you are going to be doing lot of larger RMC work I recommend investing in a threading machine with cutters, the one shown below is for 3"

This cutter can be used manually without the machine, just a tri stand. You can invest in the reamers as well but I used files or a piece of threaded rod.

I di have a rigid model that’s similar. Works great for threading, I should have been clear: in this circumstance, we’re using RMC as a support brace, and the brackets that we fit on it don’t work too well unless it’s a square end. I have 60 to cut tomorrow alone, so I was trying to think of a faster way

After 60 you'll be as fast and square as anything...even making a jig will just lend to mistakes, but I suppose you could make one... just get a chop saw. Square and quick. And simple bench one I mean.. do not use harbor f. wheels..

He needs to cut the pipe in place, not on a bench
