WOW 2 gb RAM will make you happy. I can run all my Siemens PLC software at once and it just runs so nice and speedy. Uh I had only 256 MB RAM 3 hours ago. I might not be able to eat dinner and work at the same time now.

Dell PowerEdge 400 server tower w/on-board Gigabit network, 3.2GHz P4, 1G ram, W2Kpro SP4. C drive 40G, D drive 250G.

I typically get about 3.2Mbps download speed.

I have a pair of matched 10K rpm 74G SATA drives in the wings, which I'll probably run in a RAID configuration.

I was told that W2K did not use memory very well above 256M (maybe it was 512, but 256 sticks in my head). Any truth to that?

LOL I have a few computers here at the house.

The one I am on now, the one that I use more than the others has a bit less ram than you all. :D

AMD-K6 processor, 56.0 MB RAM running windoze 98.

It works fine for the forums.

It has a major aneurysm if I try to check out videos on Y-Tube. :D

Well, Bob, you got mine beat (in an inverse way). :D

My old mac I'm sitting on now has 128MB RAM, and a 350 mHz processor. I'm sitting here on it stealing my wife's internet connection since she's on the PC we bought last summer. It works fine for the forums, drawing pictures, and simple searches, but that's about it. The more advanced features of the forum (being able to underline and italicize without manually typing in the tags) don't work on the mac, but half the time I still type the tags in anyway.

The PC has a 1.8 GHZ processor with 512 MB RAM, on XP, and does just about everything we ask of it.

Still can't convince her to get high speed. :D

Just do it. she will thank you after the first day and tell you how great you are to make this one bold change with out her permission. OK it might not be that great but my wife was happy.

how did you possibly function w/ 256mb?????? i haven't had that little in at least 10 years.

really? 10 years ago 256 MB RAM would have been outstanding. Hey I had a Commadore 64 so don't get me started.

I had a Radio Shack "Color 3" computer. No hard drive, loaded the programs via cassette tape deck or a plug in cartridge.

The casette tape deck with the cord bigger than an electric clothes dryer cord?

I hadn't heard that, but you certainly piqued my interest. How would I find out?

Hey George, you should treat yourself to a new I-book (they all have wireless built in these days) and just glide onto whatever open network is around. Assuming of course you live near others.

Nope. None. Nada. It was Win98 that didn't use more than 256MB very nicely, without a few tweeks. W2K is based on NT4, which is what Servers are run on. My W2K machine has 768MB.

Do I have to pull out my stacks of punch cards in shoeboxes?? Does anyone remember the Intel 8085a processor running a hot 3.2 megahertz. Make sure you get a spyware and adaware blocking program run it once a week and you will keep that nice fast speed you have now.

I had the first portable computer. It was a Compaq dual disk drive, no hard drive though. I believe those double density diskettes held 256k. Was a hot machine in its time. It was like a suitcase and weighed at least 40 lbs.
