I put some Cutler Hammer type CL breakers in a panel and it got flagged on final inspection. Years ago, I remember having a long list of breakers that these were listed to replace. I can't find it. Now when I check CH's website, it doesn't mention Gould, but it does mention ITE/Siemens. Well Siemens bought Gould, but I cannot find anywhere (in writing) that these CL breakers are listed for the Gould panel. I can't even find that the Siemens QP breaker is listed for the Gould panel. Can anyone, with better Googling skills than I, help me out on this?

Thanks,
Frank

Siemens and gould are the same breakers but since Siemens starting making them they were listed for their own panels. I cannot imagine getting turned down in that instance.

This is a very controversial problem. Gould lists their panels as suitable with Gould breakers. Years later UL allows other manufacturers to make breakers listed for other panels. Now if you install those breakers you void the UL on the panel. It's a catch twenty two. It's also Bull....

Gould Inc. bought the I-T-E Imperial Corp. in 1976, the line was renamed Gould/ITE until they sold them to Siemens-Allis about 1984 later to be Siemens. Siemens is the successor company to ITE, Gould/ITE, ITE Electrical Products div. Siemens-Allis, so just use a Siemens breaker & be done with it.

Agreed. A breaker type is not manufacturer-specific. (You know what I mean.)

Type BR breakers weren't always made by C-H.

Right. I have a mixed collection of Westinghouse, Challenger and Bryant Breakers. Both are Type BR and Type C (identical.) I can use them in a modern Cutler Hammer panel because a CH panel is listed for BR and C.
