A while back we had a thread on GPS usage. I have on occasion used one attached to my laptop or a small hand held. They worked but usually inconvenient. Got a new Garmin 350 nuvi last week. What a difference. Touch screen, fast, and simple to use. Got me thinking about putting them in service trucks.

Two weeks ago I finally got a new GPS, I got the Garmin StreetPilot c340. It's great, I have been intentionally trying to test it while going to places I know.

I ended up learning new shortcuts.

It's maps have a few issues....trying to send me on streets that are now dead ends but used to go places but you just keep driving and it recalculates the new route from where you are.

Service trucks should get one factory installed, I have no doubt it could save the cost with reduced 'lost' time.

I use a Garmin nuvi 350. Handy to get to customers address without asking for and writing down sometimes complicated directions.

I feel the same way
Mine has been a good investment.

Just noticed yesterday that the female voice on my Nuvi has a rather sarcastic inflection as is says "Recalculating" when you miss a turn. LMAO.

Yeah, I noticed that as well, I swear it gets more sarcastic the more times you make it recalculate.

I just updated my Verizon phone and I have a GPS in it, its great. It has map, directions et.. It tell you when to turn etc.

I have a GPS, but I back it up with paper maps. The only real issues I've had with the GPS are the fact that it sometimes attempts to send me down streets that aren't built yet (they just don't exist yet) and streets that are incomplete for a certain section.

I drive a pretty heavy truck, so I just figured out how to get my GPS set so that it won't plan a route for streets where trucks are prohibited, send me over any weight restricted bridges, send me down alleyways, put me through a one lane covered bridge, or any route with height restrictions. You can set the GPS to optimize the route for a truck, and make it so that you don't have to do a U turn when it recalculates. That's been a blessing since I realized that you could set it that way.

I use the Garmin Nuvi 360: which has the added convenience of Bluetooth. Now when I'm almost to a customers home I can call to let them know I'm on my way without ever having to touch my phone as I'm driving. It also receives calls and you just take the call by pressing answer and then talking.

I think it's great and much safer than using a phone while driving, which is illegal here in NJ.

yea mine does too. I have the Garmin 330c and it does sound condescending when you miss a turn but i get back at it by shutting it off before i get to my destination so that she cant say (in a real happy voice) "arriving at destination"

gps

I have gps on my verizon phone and love it . So many times I get called out to a job, I cant find in my map book, because it may be a new development. But even in the new developments the gps works because they all use verizon for their phone sevice. Also I get called to an area that I'm not familar with, it can be a pain to find a place to get lunch, with my gps you can find all the places to eat from where ever you are and they just come up on the phone and even the phone # incase i want to phone in my orders.
