Graham/Stetzer Filters information

The school district I'm in asked me to give an opion on this topic. Someone came in a did a study and said the school needs these filters. Has anyone had any experience with this filter and does it work as written. I can not find very much information about this product. A couple case studies on the Web and a couple articles from the Cancer Society.

Re: Graham/Stetzer Filters information

I am absolutely appalled. Check out this quote from their web site:
The high frequency current (trash) on the neutral wire in the electrical system is positioned to return directly to the power system via the feeder neutral to the substation, and possibly beyond. However, as is often the case, the utility feeder neutral is not adequately sized (as required by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin). If this is the case, much of the return current will flow through the ground rather than the feeder neutral.
The neutral isn't big enough, so the harmonic current will travel through planet Earth. What egregious nonsense!

And their claims of medical benefits are scandalous. I noted that their testimonial papers were written by their own employees. Tell me that makes you feel more confident in the truth of their claims!

Do not take any calls from that company. Do not spend any more time on this.

I agree with Charlie. This kind of combination of electrical ignorance and sales hype turns my stomach. There are always people around to take advantage of any legitimate concern and try to profit by it.

Yea, legal safe harbors alow energy scams such as freelectricity.com to proliferate without prosecution.

My well referenced remarks back in 2001, are still the No.1 hit when searching 'freelectricity.com scam' in Google groups.

U.S. District Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson, was the only challenger of similar energy scams.

"Caveat emptor" suggests consumer stupidity is lucrative, and industry will supply that demand with everlasting love, without more Judge Penfield's or legislative support for regulation.

I see the Stetzerizer Filter press releases claims to improve power factor.

If harmonics increase Amps and thereby decrease power factor, since pf=W/VA, removing harmonics and adding capacitance at 60Hz does shift power factor positively.

But, are filters proven or prefered for this?

I thought qualified power-quality specialists tuned power correction to match the electrical system, prefering either capacitor banks, 120/60v isolation, 6, 9, & 12 phase wave-canceling transformers, or power conditioners like Liebert's Datawave magnetic synthesizer?
