We are having our ribbon cutting today for our new shop in Sedalia. Our radio add has been running beginning Aug 1st and we have a add in the newspaper. The service calls are slowly comming in and we landed a nice job rewiring a campground. The problem is I need a person in Sedalia but at this point I don't have full time work.I am trying to think of a good way to cover the territiory in this formative stage maybe 1099 someone as a sub.Any suggestions.

Only way I've ever seen it successfully done is to have the financial backbone to hire the right person to do the work and perform the marketing/advertising/sales during downtime.

Typically this person is in charge of growing the branch, and will be the manager.

Usually when done on a bootstrap, it ends up in flames. It's not the same as a bootstrap 1st location, where the owner/operator is usually willing to work for less than min wages to make a go of it.

% of the revenue or profit...give him a piece of the pie...but you need to have the financial capacity to carry him for awhile until things pick up....

Commission? If you could find a dynamic type who's willing to 1099+commission the work that comes in it might be a good start. Heck, you might even find someone who's willing to take a base pay plus commission to do it. What model are you planning to use in the long term, franchise?

problem with a 1099 in this situation is that unless you really know and trust the guy, what's his incentive to not poach your business?

if he has a stake in the company, he's more likely to be honest with you...

Congratulations on your new shop.

I think you should re-read what's constitutes an employee.

I believe there's alot ways of how the IRS looks at employee's verse a contractor and reporting to an office does not make them a 1099 candidate.

Of course this might be old news and several code cycles ago...
