I'm supplying power to motor control center with 353 flc amps with 40 hp 53 amp largest motor. The cabinet has a 400 amp main breaker, 480 volts. I have been told I need to install a grounding ring around the plant. There are 7 conveyers not connected to the wash plant. I am wondering what size conductor to use for ring and also what size to tap off to the conveyers. Due to the MSHA requirements. Also wondering if service can be connected to this ground ring.

Re: Gravel Wash Plant

For the round ring, start with 250.52(A)(4)

I am not aware of this MSHA requirement. Could you please post the requirement or a link to it?

Was this item on the MSHA inspector's list?
Is the wash plant already constructed (footings poured)?

Re: Gravel Wash Plant

thanks Luke haven't had inspection yet,but footings and floor are poured. I will treat this as a building and encircle with grd. elect. cond.to size of service. Thanks.

Re: Gravel Wash Plant

Sparky, when I think of gravel I think of poor soil conductivity. Sites that process gravel are usually built near a lot of rock. That ground ring is probably to insure a better grounding electrode. Has anyone checked the soil conductivity? You may have to add chemials or soil conditioners to help get a decent grounding resistance.
