First time for everything, and thanks to some members of this forum (who shall remain nameless :grin:)., I had to try it. I had a rework box up high on a wall close to the bottom of a vaulted ceiling. (Home owner had a small desk & wanted an outlet right above it.) The HO later decides to put tongue & groove on the ceiling, and after trim my box is partially buried on top. The box is a Carlon pvc rework box, and after cutting the drywall underneath the box to move the outlet down, so the plate would fit below the trim, the top ear/wing had nothing to grab on to. Also, no studs nearby either. (note to self: next time put a rework box NEXT to stud if at all possible :grin:)...
Anyways, Great stuff'd it in... We'll see how well it holds :roll:.

It will hold. As long as it dries undisturbed. It ain't going anywhere.
 
Larry,

The extension ring doesn't help when the hole for the top device yoke screw is covered by the lowered (thicker) ceiling surface.

Thanks, I think...I've been here for 3+ years, and a member for over 1...
Anyways, those arlington box extenders only help you when you have a finished surface on the top & bottom of the box to get it to hold...With a loose rework box in the wall, it wouldn't have helped. BTW, I carry both the single & two gang extender boxes on the truck...

In that case, the surface opening should be enlarged enough to expose the screw hole (by the person who installed the paneling.)
