Anyone catch the "Greatest American" program on the Discovery Channel Sunday night? They are counting down and profiling persons voted by the public as being the greatest Americans.
There were two issues. For one thing, Nikola Tesla was #97. I guess if you consider how many Americans have existed for the last 200+ years that isn't so bad, however I don't see how Madona and Dr. Phil are greater Americans then Mr. Tesla?
The second issue was with some of the commentary made about the "war of currents" Tesla had with Edison. They actually implied that if Edison's DC system was choosen over Tesla's AC system, there would have been a lot more deaths and injuries to persons using electricity. A pop musician makes the statement, "AC is pulsing so it blows you off the circuit when you touch it, whereas DC grabs you on and won't let you go". What a moron, yet the Discovery Channel broadcasts it.
Discovery Channel has had in the past some of the best programs on electrical history and technology, yet somehow they use the comments of a pop star? Usually, I am not bothered by inaccurate information on television, but for some reason this one hit the right buttons.
