Greenfield/Metallic Flex for Sub Feed

Is there any specific codes regarding the use of greenfield or metallic flex with a sub panel line? For example a sub panel line fished thru wall via metallic flexible tubing. I have not seen a specific regulation against it, so I thought I would ask the masters out there. Also is it ok to have a pull box within this run?

Thanks in advance.

Just so there is no confusion, flexible metallic tubing (FMT) is not the same as greenfield which is a trade name for flexible metallic conduit (FMC).
Flexible metallic tubing is only available in 1/2" and 3/4" trade sizes and is only permitted in lengths up to 6'.

I see now. Thats why I was thrown off reading that subject. I did see differences in greenfield and flexible metallic tubing, however I did not know it was recognized differently in relation to the diameter. This is why I love this forum.

Thanks again

so what is that stuff called that is 1 inch or 1 1/4 inch or 1 1/2 inch or 2 inch I've seen it up to 4 inch in diameter.

it looks the same, is made of the same material, is the same in all respects that are apperant except size

I always thought it was metalic flexable tubeing.

More than likely it is Flexible Metal Conduit you are dealing with.

Flexible metallic tubing is extremely rare in most parts of the country, from my understanding. In fact, I think it it something that is most frequently used in Chicago due to their unique code requirements.

I think that you're right about the Chicago thing. We had a bunch of air tight downlight fixtures that were listed as "Chicago Approved" and they had flexible metallic tubing feeding the lampholder from the junction box instead of the typical 3/8" FMC.
