I have a greenlee 1800 made for 1/2-1" rigid/imc, has anyone had any luck with modifying a bender designed for rigid to bend emt?

No, you'll have to get Greenlee 1818 if you want to bend EMT. I prefer this one because it can bend EMT, IMC, and Rigid with a variety of sizes. I recommend looking on eBay, you can find one for around $2,000 used.

I take it the OP's model doesn't have option to change shoe with one designed for what he wants to bend?

No, there is no option to change on the 1800.

Only Greenlee 1818 can change shoes for EMT, IMC, & Rigid. The 1800 and 1801 have the shoes built into the bender.
