Looking at the Greenlee 1818 bender and am confused about the shoes and follow bars. Seems some shoes say EMT and others say Rigid. Of course with the larger EMT you also need the follow bars. I thought the O.D. of EMT and Rigid were the same, so why different shoes?

The 1818 2" shoe for EMT and ridge (Al) has different center line bending radiuses.

The follow bar is for EMT 1-1/4 thru 2"
The center line bending radius is on the shoes.
If memory serves for 2" it 2" and some 1/16. I would need to take a trip to the garage to be sure.
I can if you need pics etc.

I think I may have figured this out. Tell me if it makes sense. From pages 178 & 179 of the Greenlee manual:

1818R is for Rigid only, not EMT. 1818 is for either. The radii up through 1-1/4" are smaller for 1818R/Rigid than for EMT & Rigid/1818. I guess because EMT might collapse at a smaller radii. But with 1-1/2" the radius for 1818R is larger than for 1818. I suppose because of the use of the following shoes.

Soooo, the 1818 can do both EMT and Rigid even though the shoes say EMT, but the 1818R should only be used with Rigid. I expect you could put a 10 degree kick or a small degree offset in 2" Rigid with the 1818. Will have to give it a try with the one at the plant.

See, I accepted another job. Will be setting up a new electrical shop and trying to stay away from expensive hydraulic benders for now. Same with threaders - try to stay with the hand held power threaders.
