Wondering if anyone ever ran into this problem... Greenlee SlugBuster Kit 1/2" to 2", Ratchet Driven. The threads on the 2" punch and the 3/4" Draw Stud are a little beat up, the kit was almost brand new. It would be a shame to waste the punch and the stud.. anyone know what the TPI is on it? and if there is anyone in the Great US.. (Mainly Northeast PA) that would be able to maybe run a threader on it to possibly repair it?

The thread would probably be 3/4-National Fine or NF. Taps of this size should be commonly available at a good [real] tool store.
However the problem is that these studs and punches are made of hardened metal and are probably invulnerable to a piddly die or tap. It is more likely that the stud is the damaged culprit since it is more exposed. Proof or test of the tapioca pudding is whether the stud goes in smoothly into one of the unused sizes of punches.
Perhaps a triangular file [or the edge of a half round file] might be able to clean up the external threads on the stud.
It is best to prevent this from happening in the first place.
Theoretically, it should be posible to heat up and anneal the damaged part, rethread it and then reharden it but I don't know.

I've had good results if I lube up the stud and run it through one of the good dies to clean up the threads. This assumes that the end threads are good enough to get it started. Never had to fix a die so I've no advice there.

ive got one that did the same thing (the draw stud). i was using it to punch a ss cabinet. i tried to run a die down it but i think my die was worn out. i havent messed with it since. i may try the idea with the file.
i can get one from the supply house for 20-25 bucks. blue box can get them for you too.

The only problem I have had with a draw stud is when someone used it with the wrong combination of punch and die, must have been texting his girlfriend at the time.
A couple of the threads were trashed. I figured it might damage the rest of the set if I kept it in service. I stopped by the supply house on the way home and picked up another one.
For me, that little $20 piece of hardware could really mess up productivity if we were in the middle of an over night shutdown.

We have started using the Maxis K/O cutters. Check the link. We hardly ever use the "ratchet style" of K/O's and now have gotten rid of the "hydraulic type" as well. (No more oily mess and the repair cost for the hydraulics was ridiculous). By the way all of the old Greenlee "cutters" work with the Maxis.

you could just buy a single 3/4 or 1 inch or bigger greenlee punck kit and use the draw stud from that. save the punch for anotherday.

i lost my drawstud and 3/4th inch punch kit and i ordered a new one from greenlee. speaking of that i might need to replace my 1/2inch drawstud since the threads are getting messed up

speaking of punches, is it possible to still order the drawstud for the larger size punches? im talking about the kind where you need to hold the smaller nut in the back while turning a bigger nut, it pulls the cutter into the cup instead of twisting it. on 4 inch, sometimes it takes 2 guys to do it but i can do it by myself usually

Their is something called a thread file. They work great when the end of a bolt or rod is too beat up to get a die started. The other problem with running a die onto something when the end is all mashed is it may not start threading in the same place. Once it hits the orignal threads it makes a mess of them.

I like this one... I might have to pick it up just to have it. It seems like something that would come in handy all too often!

Any tool that I buy from Rexel if it goes bad they replace it.
I must be lucky I have my KO set I bought in 1972 and it is still OK.
I use it all the time. They just don't make tools like they use to.
