Grommet or bushing in wooden cabinet in dwelling kitchen.

On YouTube someone mentioned in the 2020 NEC there will be a need for a grommet or bushing in the hole of the cabinet where the dishwasher cord passes through. I haven't found the code section. Has anyone? Thanks

Thank you. I wonder who will do this protection since the cabinets are installed by the GC or the cabinet maker? And then the plumber installs the dishwasher with the cord and water line, often times before the electrician returns for final trim out. Anyway that will need to be figured out. "Other approved means" leaves it open for a wide interpretation. Thanks again for doing my homework for me haha.

It's crazy for wood. They make a two piece grommet that we use when installing Romex through metal studs. I suppose that might work.

I hear what you are saying, and we definitely will have to coordinate on the size of the hole with the installer. Thanks again, for the quick code section . . .

Is this just the 2020? And what device out there to accommodate the requirement? Tried to find something but found nothing that would allow the plug head in. Most everything I've found where related to desks for Cat, phone, and computer hdmi to come thru but nothing larger.

I'm guessing that a specific product doesn't exist. I think that a furniture grommet might be good enough.

Its a 2020 change. T&B makes a 2" plastic KO bushing, might work on thicker wood instead of metal box.

You could always feed the disposer end of the cord through a smaller grommet, then make connections.

We've been hard-wiring disposers in place for decades, so cords should be at least as easy, if not easier.

Added: A cord protection layer of come type should be accepted.

What’s funny is back in 2017 while attending an IAEI seminar in Virginia a member of CMP 17 verbally stated in front of the class “ We highly dought this will make it into the 2020 NEC”
Yeah right🙄

I’d think placing protection on the cord itself (such as spiral wrap) would be equivalent if not better protection.

I haven’t looked at how the code is worded, but based on the description in this thread, I doubt that would comply.

I wonder if you could take split loom and ring it around the inside of the hole. That would make a fast grommet to fit any size hole. And heck, its even made for electrical usage.

I'm thinking sump pump hose. That's 1-1/4"

Or maybe make a "grommet" with a tube of silicone caulk at the beginning of a finish, and let it dry for a day before running a crod through it
