Can anyone tell me the purpose of the diodes ? Or provide any enlightenment.

The instructions say the diodes are good for use with up to 350 MCM conductors. The instructions show how to connect, but give no clue why I would want to connect this gizmo to my switchgear.

The RH side with the little nut is supposed to get attached to the (EGC?) that is pulled with the ungrounded conductors between the switchgear & a motor.

The LH side with the two diodes turned opposite each other so that one of them conducts each half cycle will be connected to the ground bus in the switchgear.

The black part with the label is a CT 450A to .1 A. The system is grounded using a 400A 10 sec resistor. System voltage is 4160VAC.

Four wires from this sensor go to a device that either monitors for current or injects current to monitor the integrity of the ground fault path, or maybe some other purpose.

The yellow wire contains a "Pilot Diode".
