Re: ground faults

I am going to assume you are asking about the receptacles located in other than the spray booths.

If so, you will follow the requirements of Art 511.

511.1 Scope. These occupancies shall include locations used for service and repair operations in connection with self-propelled vehicles (including, but not limited to, passenger
automobiles, buses, trucks, and tractors) in which
volatile flammable liquids or flammable gases are used for fuel or power.

511.12 Ground-Fault Circuit-Interrupter Protection for Personnel. All 125-volt, single-phase, 15- and 20-ampere receptacles installed in areas where electrical diagnostic equipment, electrical hand tools, or portable lighting equipment are to be used shall have ground-fault circuitinterrupter protection for personnel.

This seems to cover a body shop. If you assume it does, then 511.12 also applies. :D

Re: ground faults

You have to have GFCI any time you are doing maintenance or repairs with hand held power tools or any kind of cord. An exception is that is a factory periodic testing of equipment grounding conductors is allowed instead.

Re: ground faults

Thank you for the info on the ground faults. Another Question How far do you have to keep electrical from the spray booth. This is called spraybake it hah doors on either end so you can drive in one end and out the other. They want to put the service panel about five foot from the booth.

Read 516.3(C)(3)

"An exception is that is a factory periodic testing of equipment grounding conductors is allowed instead."

MC
