Ground Loop Issues

Outdoor MCC's with metal raceways fed from a Main Distribution Panel. The costumer has ground rods on the outside of the MCC. By code this is not allowed. What are some of the problems that could arise if they don't correct the violations.

What are the ground rods connected too?

Ground rods at an outside MCC panel that are connected to the EGC and not the grounded conductor are not a violation. (See 250.54)

In fact they may be required if the MCC is considered a separate structure. (See 250.32(A))

I'm with Chris. If these rods are not required then they are still permitted as a supplementary electrode. They may be required if your MCC qualifies as a separate structure.
