For a residential system per 250.52A5 you can use 8ft ground rods.
250.53A2 says that a ground rod needs supplemented. In my interpretation I can install a second ground rod at least 6 feet away to meet requirements.
Is this correct?
This house has well water and only the tip of the well head comes up and it’s quite rusty and the pipes are plastic.

Yes, two rods minimum of 6' apart is all that's required unless you want to get involved with testing a single rod.

This is for a new residential service?
Its usually the rods that supplement the water main in my view, but sure
two rods or the test are required. 6' is the rule.
Some people think the rods should be the last electrode in the sequence.
25' of Uffer would be good too if there is any pour going on, or structural steel

And please note that there are few places in the NEC where the rules apply to "residential". Art 250 makes no distinction between types of occupancy, dwelling, non dwelling...
Do you have reinforcing steel in the footing, does it qualify as a concrete encased electrode, if so you are required to use it. And then no ground rods.

No reinforced steel footing, and thank you

Very old house no construction ongoing. Yes residential. I agree the usual go to in my region is water supplemented by rod. With well water ran in plastic no go, also no structural steel. And thank you

A metal water pipe electrode would still require two rods or testing for 25Ω or less from one rod.
