Hello All,

We are manufacturers and exporters of “ Copper Bonded Ground Rods “ with UL and RUS approvals. Have recently developed some accessories complimentary to above product – Ground Rod Clamps and Couplings.

We now need to submit parts for UL approval and listing. Are not able to correctly figure out the conductor sizes mentioned on the Clamps i.e.,

Cat No.
Trade Size – Inches
Conductor Range/Size
KRC121/28 sol – 6 str
KRC585/88 sol – 6 str
KRC343/48 sol – 6 str
KRC383/810 Sol – 4 Str
KRC118 Sol – 4/0 Str
KRC12 Heavy1/210 Sol – 2 Str
KRC58 Heavy5/88 Sol – 1/0 Str
KRC34 Heavy3/48 Sol – 1/0 Str

Need your assistance in clearly defining what it means and also which cable samples in both types – sold and stranded, to be used for testing.

Also, is “short time current test” needed for Clamps in UL ? Kindly let us know the applicable tests for Ground Rod Clamps and applicable UL standards ?

Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.

A rapid response shall be highly appreciated.

How can you design a product if you don't know what is required by the product standard that applies to that product? Having and understaing the requirements in the product standard would be the very first step in the process of designing and manufacturing a product that is going to be listed to the product standard.

All of the UL Standards can be read online for free if you need to see what they say....not a real user friendly system, but they are there to read.

One tip for using the free Digital View for UL standards on ul.com: I find there is a delay for every interaction with the viewer, like clicking for the next page. But once you get to page 1, if you click on the "last page" icon to jump to the last page (after a long delay), then all the pages are preloaded into your browser and you can page back and forth without delay.

Cheers, Wayne

Hi all,
Thanks for the replies till now. Maybe what I am asking was not put forth clearly by myself.
For UL testing of these clamps and coupling, I need to also submit WIRES that will be required during the tests.
1) Will deeply appreciate, if someone can shed light on what wires are required for UL to do these tests, as in do the wires also need to be UL listed or not? And what gauge wires for different trade sizes?
there is not much information regarding the same anywhere and I have contacted them directly also but still there was no clarity.

The UL Product Standards are pretty detailed as to the testing requirements. Do you have a copy of the product standard?
