If a spec calls to ground each column to a seperate ground rod , do you have to keep them 6 feet away from each other?

I would say yes otherwise it would be similar to grounding to one rod. Minimum 6 feet. I am surprised the specs don't recommend more distance than 6 feet. The rods must be bonding together also.

Are the specs requiring this as part of the GES or is it for "supplementary" (250.54 2005 NEC and earlier) or "auxiliary" (250.54 2008 NEC) reasons? If they are for 250.54 reasons the rods don't really have to abide by any spacing rule.
