ground rod with Isolated Neutral

I am replacing an old fuse panel at a relative's farm. The power is fed with aerial drops from the yard pole to each building. On the yard pole where the meter is, and the farm can hook up a generator to a 3 position safety switch, it says "Caution isolated neutral" I have never seen a ground rod anywhere in these buildings. I am inclined not to install a ground rod on this new panel because it may compromise the isolation of the neutral. I know that it would work because all the existing fuse panels have no ground rod. Modern practice calls for a ground rod at the service equipment.

How would installing a ground rod "compromise" the neutral isolation.

I don't know what "isolated neutral" means. It may only mean that the transfer switch switches the neutral. It is not a term I am familiar with though.
