The 1/2 inch rod you speak of is to be of stainless steel. I have never seen one installed, I am not sure what others have seen. 5/8 rods are much less expensive, and stock items on supply house shelves.

I think others do as well. If I just ask our purchaser for a ground rod I will receive a listed 1/2" copper clad one
Seeing as I have put very little time in the '08 NEC, I have some catching up to do.
does this mean if I use a 10 foot 3/4 inch ground rod its in violation?
Unless it is a local amendment, the local AHJ cannot deny the permission given in the NEC.Do any local AHJ's require copper-clad rods over galvanize?
