I have solved the ground up vs ground down debate thanks to the fine people over at the Harvey Hubbell Company. I have a few boxes of nos hubbell duplex receptacles and I used a few in a prototype portable power distribution box. I noticed the hubbell logo on them is oriented so the receptacle should be placed ground up, or the logo would be upside down.

This is true with other brands also! Let it go, let it go! It is not a code requirement!:D

so you install all your receptacles upside down?

so you install all your receptacles upside down?

My receptacles are specially ordered. The manufactures logo is oriented such that the ground hole is at the bottom. Needless to say the correct installation for MY receptacles is with the ground below the power.
Unless, of course, I am in a bit of a hurry and install them while standing on my head.

everything I have been shown in rebuttal to my Harvey Hubbell receptacle is just an attempt to make funny looking outlets for picky homeowners with right angle plugs on their Mac computers.

I still say due to the prominent placement of the logo, Harvey Hubbell meant for receptacles to be mounted ground up.
