we are installing a temp disconnect from a service panel 200'. feeder will be 120/240v we want to hang triplex across field because customer doesn't want to dig and its only for about 3/6months temporary. if I run overhead to disconnect do I have to run EGC on pole also or could I just treat it as a service disconnect and install ground rod at disconnect. I know I could just run quadplex but just asking. I cant find it in code... if it even legal or exist. thanks

Need 4 wires.

Just install THWN conductors that are sunlight resistant.

got it. if I were to install ground rod with ground isolated from neutral is that acceptable?

No, that is a code violation and downright dangerous.

Even with the equipment grounding conductor a grounding electrode system is required anyway by 250.32(A).

The fact it is temporary does not cut you any slack.

In this case the fault current will not have a good path to get back to the source. So if there is a fault all of your metal enclosures will stay energized.

Install 4 conductors or 3 conductors if you only need 120V.
