While temporarily relocating a point of attachment for a siding job I became worried about two things.

1. Using the chimney to support the lines coming from the pole

2. Potential between the grounded conductor and the chimney

As far as using the chimney for support, I used motorcycle straps around the chimney close to the roofline to hold the service for about an hour. Originally I thought we might leave it like that, but I thought better of it. So my question on that is could the overhead break the masonry and pull down the chimney? The overhead was stretched pretty tight and was 2/0 aluminum. By far the largest sized wire in open air coming from the pole I've ever seen for a 200A service.

As for concern #2, I believe I simultaneously made contact with the chimney and the neutral with my body. Nothing happened, but is there potential there for ground to follow all paths and take a few shortcuts through my body to the chimney? Or is there something with the construction of brick and its masonry that is too high of a resistance to complete any kind of circuit?
