I am an electrician with 20 years commercial experiance and have be asked to add some Applicnace outlet to a concession trailer for a girls traveling softball team. This is a pro bono job but I still want to do it the best way possible. What I need is any info to add in the grounding of the trailer when using a 120/240volt single phase gasoline generator to power the outlets. I will be using a small sub panel with gfci breakers and emt conduit with 4 square boxes in the trailer for branch circuiting. Do I need to drive a ground rod at the sites where the trailer is set and does the framework of the trailer and the generator need to go to the rod.

Re: groundig a concession trailer

If you are supplying the trailer/concession from the generator via a cord and plug situation, no you do not need to ground the trailer or the generator.
If you supply them from the generator with a hard wired situation, then yes you need to use ground rods.

"250.34 Portable and Vehicle-Mounted Generators.
(A) Portable Generators. The frame of a portable generator shall not be required to be grounded and shall be permitted to serve as the grounding electrode for a system supplied by the generator under the following conditions:
(1) The generator supplies only equipment mounted on the generator, cord-and-plug-connected equipment through receptacles mounted on the generator, or both, and
(2) The non?current-carrying metal parts of equipment and the equipment grounding conductor terminals of the receptacles are bonded to the generator frame."

I should add this as well:

"525.21 Rides, Tents and Concessions.
(A) Disconnecting Means. Each ride and concession shall be provided with a fused disconnect switch or circuit breaker located within sight and within 1.8 m (6 ft) of the operator?s station. The disconnecting means shall be readily
accessible to the operator, including when the ride is in operation. Where accessible to unqualified persons, the enclosure for the switch or circuit breaker shall be of the lockable type. A shunt trip device that opens the fused
disconnect or circuit breaker when a switch located in the ride operator?s console is closed shall be a permissible method of opening the circuit."

Re: groundig a concession trailer

As long as the trailer is cord and plug connected to the generator no ground rod is required.

The trailer frame should be connected to the EGC at the panel.

Take a look at 250.34

Re: groundig a concession trailer

Thanks for the help. I will use a 4 wire cord and plug with an isolated neutral bar at the panel and ground the green to the groung prong on the male cord end and the panel case on the other end. Thanks again for your clarification.
