grounding an existing 2 wire home

Does anybody know the code on adding a sperate ground wire to an existing 2 wire. I want to run a ground through each outlet and then to the panel. Is this legal? Has anybody done it before?

Its done all the time. Do you have an NEC? Take a look at 250.30
