Would like some clarification if someone can help. I am replacing 2 wire outlets with 3 wire outlets in existing home. I plan on running a ground wire only to each outlet. Do I need to run EACH wire back to main panel, or can I daisy chain in J boxes?? Also-does the groung wire need to be in some type or raceway or not-Thanks for your help from first time poster

In my opinion you can daisy chain the new EGC. You will have to comply with 250.130(C).

As far as a raceway, well maybe for some parts. EGCs smaller then 6 AWG shall be protected from physical damage by raceway or cable armor except where run in hollow spaces. There is more take a look at 250.120(C).

Now that said, it seems in my opinion that if you have to get an EGC to a number of outlets you could just as easily run NM and abandon the old wiring.

I agree. If you are fishing anyway, you may as well replace the whole thing.

That's exactly right, and in most cases it'll be less work. Instead of fighting with old boxes and stubby conductors with brittle insulation, just run new stuff and finish it faster with less cursing.
