I have been asked to wire a boat dock with 110V just for some lights and receptacles, no flourescent lights. Do i carry the ground wire from the house down to the dock and use that as the grounding conductor or do i ground the dock under the water line and use that as my grounding conductor and sever the ground wire from the house.

Re: Grounding boat docks

Huh, Are you talking about grounding the recp's via the water line that is apparently out near the dock? That answer would be no.

Re: Grounding boat docks

Your post states electrican but this a question that a electrician would not ask.
You need an equipment grounding conductor to provide a low impedance fault current path, per section 555.15
The receptacle requirement is in NEC section 555.B 1
Keep in mind the datum plane requirement.
I suspect this is a DIy'r post, but if you are an electrician then you will have an NEC.
Make sure you get a permit and inspection.
I'll lock the post if you disagree send me a PM.
