We've got a 277v lighting circuit that turns on a 120v fart fan in restrooms of a schoolhouse. In the j-box that combines the dual voltages we have ground wires coming from both panels. I think that I've heard Mike Holt speak out on this issue. Is it OK to land these ground wires together?

There is no legal way to avoid connecting all the EGCs together.

Take a look at 250.144

Multiple Circuit Connections
Where equipment is grounded and is supplied by separate connection to more than one circuit or grounded premises wiring system, an equipment grounding conductor termination shall be provided for each such connection as specified in 250.134 and 250.138.
