Is the grounding electrode conductor required to be landed on the neutral buss in the service panel or can it be landed on the equipment grounding conductor buss?? I know the egc and neutral are bonded at the panel and technically it shoudnt make a difference, but i was told by an inspector that the gec from the water pipe goes to the neutral buss not the egc buss.

...but not absolutely correct!!!

See 250.24(A)(4).

Most panels today that are listed as suitable for services can take advantage of the section number that Smart posted and landing the GEC can on either the neutral or EGC bus is code compliant. Landing the GEC to the neutral bar has roots that go back quite a while back in the NEC history...things have changed.

It seems to me many panel boards are bonded by means of a screw and a separate equipment grounding bar is attached to the sheet metal enclosure. Under those conditions the GEC must go to the neutral bar.
