I have grounding electrode conductor routed inside the building from one corner of the building to the opposite corner.

Would the grounding electrode conductor need to be in conduit when routed inside?

I am not sure but, in some cases, the grounding electrode conductor may need to be bare if run without conduit.

I don't doubt that is correct but I can't place where that would be the case. What do you have in mind ?

Something to do with the insulation in a space used for air handling? We've run exposed green #3/0 THHN all over commecial buildings for GEC's.
