Can a Grounding Electrode Conductor (GEC) share a conduit with branch circuit conductors and their respective Equipment Grounding Conductor (EGC)? Or, as in my case with the metal water supply on the other side of the building from the electric service, is it general practice to utilize a dedicated raceway to run a GEC to within 5 feet of the water supply entrance? In the application I am thinking of there would be seven #12 conductors (three black, three white, one green EGC), and the #6 insulated GEC running in 1? conduit. At the electric service there would be what I intend as the real GEC connecting to two ground rods (as well as all the required bonding but that is another subject). However, the 2005 NEC requires the use of the metal water pipe as a grounding electrode when present. I have searched the 2005 (& 2008) code and this forum and can not find a code reference or practice that prohibits the grounding electrode conductor from sharing a raceway. Thank you all for you past conversations and advice.
