Grounding Electrode Conductor Size

If I have a ground rod that is my sole purpose for grounding an electrical service is the GEC sized per 250.66. I know the code says if connecting to an rod or pipe the minimum size can be #6 copper.

Interestingly, yes, yet the GEC to it can be #4, per Dennis's pic.
That's correct based on T250.66 for the GEC. The GEC to the ground ring is not required to be larger than the conductor that makes the electrode but can be smaller.
