Where an equipment grounding conductor terminates at equipment, is there anything forbidding making connections of the equipment to a grounding electrode via a grounding electrode conductor?

For instance, what is preventing grounding electrode connections for equipment and many locations?

as long as your not bonding the neutral or ungrounded conductor to your equipment ground system. you can bond the equipment ground to the grounding electrode system as many times as you would want.

Why would you want to?

As long as there is no connection to the grounded conductor, I think 250.54 allows what you are talking about.

Thanks, I'm just making sure that it's okay because I have seen it a few times.

What is the advantage to doing this?

Neutral connection here would not be allowed of course.

I would agree with the others, but keep in mind this would be only as a supplemental connection. You would still be required to run an EGC in the same raceway or cable with the circuit conductors.
