I recently received my mandatory Texas State License Training continueing education hours. The folks at the Corpus Christi JATC did a great job in their training class. I learned that a steel beam with the foundation drilled down to a certain depth ,sorry did't take notes and still don't have a new code book,is acceptable as a grounding electrode. Am I interpreting this correctly?? I personally believe in my part of the country that this may be better than my company specification of a standard ground rod in that these large steel columns foundations go very deep fortified with steel rebar. My company specs contractors to bond all panels and instrument junction boxes to to the copper cabled grid which also bonds this steel structure. I would like to see the contractors be allowed to bond to the main steel columns and save some copper . Any opinions ??
