grounding flammable storage cabs

Morning all from safety school at Lackland AFB. Question today in class was, "Should flammable storage cabinets, (inside or out side), be grounded?" Thanks for any answers/refs.

Yes IMO, to minimize static discharges. However this is not my field of expertise.

In the industrial manufacturing facility where I'm employed we have numerous flammable storage cabinets and none are grounded. Even if they were, a difference of potential could still exist unless everything moving around the locker were bonded to it or similarly grounded.

There would be no differnece of potential inside the cabinet, grounded or not.

That is why they use conductive mats, wrist discharge straps, and discharge plates.

Please refer to NFPA-780 2004 Edition Ch.7 Protection for Structures Containing Flammable Vapors, Flammable Gasses, or Liquids..

Strike termination devices (lightning rods), bonding and grounding are required of all outside storage structures. This applies to any outdoor vessel,tank or other container where this material is contained.
