I'm working on a project with two separate, adjacent buildings. A generator is going on the roof of one building to serve the other building. The generator will be configured as a separately derived system, and therefore requires a grounding electrode connection. I assume this connection should be made to a grounding electrode in the building SERVED by the generator, but the NEC doesn't address this issue directly (that I can find). I think it makes sense to tie the two buildings' grounding electrode systems together. Any different interpretations or thoughts?

What it serves has nothing to do with the generators GES, that needs to be located as close as possible to the generator.

The generator feeder EGC will connect with the supplied buildings GES.
