The 2.5" EMT is being used to carry the ground to a subpanel, from 200 amp fused service disconnect. The neutral is bonded in the subpanel to the EGC in an existing installation. Should I separate them and isolate the neutral from the ground? There is no easy way to draw a new equipment grounding conductor from the service disconnect to the subpanel. Thanks, E/M.

The conduit is an acceptable equipment grounding means provided that it has a thorough connection at all points necessary. Isolate (float) the neutral at the neutral bus, connecting only grounded conductors to the neutral bus and then connect all the equipment grounding conductors to a ground bar, then connecting the conduit to the bar by means of a grounding/bonding bushing and a #6 cu bonding jumper. This should easily carry ground-fault currents on the conduit while keeping neutral return currents off from the conduit. :)

Although this might be a good idea, I would add that the bonding bushing and jumper are probably not required.

Thanks. Yes, currently even though there are separate neutral and ground bar, they are bonded together. E/M.
