I am working on a retrofit project. new equipment and pumps are being installed. from supply to load I am having EGC properly sized. as far as grounding to the existing grid, inorder to avoid excavations, I'm bonding new equipment and pumps and tying it to nearest existing grounded equipment which is connected to the existing grounding grid. I feel that this would serve the purpose of localize the potential difference in that area, but Is this an acceptable practice in existing plants where excavation is not recommended since there are lots of existing underground services ?
