Hello Forum,

I have a question about grounding. If a feeder supplies power to an outdoor panelboard and it supplies power to several circuits in that area, is it sufficient to connect the equipment grounding conductor, or does the panelboard also need to be connected to a ground rod or other nearby grounding electrode? Which NEC section is applicable to grounding the enclosures?

Thank you.

Yes, as it's in or at a separate "structure," the sub-panel's enclosure and EGCs should be connected to a grounding electrode system, such as a pair of rods. I'm sure it's in Art. 250 somewhere.

IF the panelboard is mounted on a building or structure, then 250.32 requires a grounding electrode system.
